Programming a Maestro LED+ Dual Dimmer/Timer and Dimmer/Switch
This article provides resources for programming a Lutron Maestro LED+ Dual Dimmer/Switch and Dimmer/Timer (MACL-L3S25 / MACL-L3T251).

Before You Begin
Confirm your Maestro LED+ Dual Control is functioning as expected. If the dual control is not powering on, or controlling the connected load, confirm it is installed properly by reviewing the Maestro LED+ Dual Control Wiring and Installation article.
Review the below diagram to understand your Maestro LED+ Dual Control’s buttons and indicator lights layout:
Maestro LED+ Dual Control Dimmer Programming
Entering Dimmer Advanced Programming Mode (APM)
Prior to adjusting any of the below settings, the Maestro LED+ Dual Control must first enter Advanced Programming Mode (APM). Follow the steps below to enter APM:
- Pull out the Front Accessible Service Switch (FASS) tab and wait 5 seconds. This disconnects power to the lights.
- Press and hold the Dimmer Tap Button .
- Push the FASS tab back in while still holding the Dimmer Tap Button for 5 seconds.
- Release the Dimmer Tap Button when the bottom Dimmer Indicator Light (DIL1) starts to blink. You are now in Advanced Programming Mode (APM).
- If there is no button activity for 1 minute, the dimmer automatically exits APM and returns to normal operation.
- To save and exit out of APM and return to normal operation press and hold the Dimmer Tap Button until the Indicator Lights stop blinking.
Adjusting the Low-end Trim
The low-end trim sets the lowest level that your LED lights will stay on at a stable level. If you experience flickering of your LED lights at the lowest setting, increase the low-end trim level. Click here for a video on Adjusting the Low-end Trim on a Maestro Dual Control.
To adjust the low-end trim, follow the steps below while in APM:
- Press or to select Dimmer Indicator Light 6 (DIL6).
- Tap the Dimmer Tap Button . Dimmer Indicator Light 3 (DIL3) will blink by default.
- Press or to select the desired low-end trim level.
- Tap the Dimmer Tap Button to save the preferred low-end trim level.
Changing the Dimmer’s Preset Light Level
The preset light level setting determines what level the lights turn on to when the Dimmer Tap Button is pressed. Click here for a video on Setting a Maestro Dimmer’s Preset Light Option.
There are two Preset Light Level settings:
- Locked Preset – Tap once to turn the lights on to the same programmed level every time.
- Unlocked Preset – Tap once to turn the lights on to the previous light level. This is the default setting.
To adjust the dimmer to a Locked Preset light level, follow the steps below while in APM to enter the Preset Light Level Settings:

- Press or to select Dimmer Indicator Light 1 (DIL1).
- Tap the Dimmer Tap Button . If none of the Dimmer Indicator Lights are blinking, the dimmer is programmed for Unlocked Preset Light Level.
- Press to change to Locked Preset.
- Press or to select the preferred Locked Preset Light Level.
- Tap the Dimmer Tap Button to save the preferred Locked Preset level.
To adjust the dimmer to an Unlocked Preset light level, follow the steps below while in the Preset Light Level Settings:

- Press until Dimmer Indicator Light 1 (DIL1) is quickly flashing.
- Release
- Press and hold until all Indicator Lights turn off.
- Tap the Dimmer Tap Button to save the Unlocked Preset setting.

Entering Timer Advanced Programming Mode (APM)
Prior to adjusting any of the below settings, the Maestro LED+ Dual Control must first enter Advanced Programming Mode (APM).
Follow the steps below to enter APM:
- Pull out the Front Accessible Service Switch (FASS) tab and wait 5 seconds. This disconnects power to the lights.
- Press and hold the Timer Tap Button .
- Push the FASS tab back in while still holding the Timer Tap Button for 5 seconds.
- Release the Dimmer Tap Button when the bottom Dimmer Indicator Light (DIL1) starts blinking. You are now in Advanced Programming Mode.
Selecting a Preset Option
The timer Preset Option setting determines what setting the timer turns on to when the Timer Tap Button is pressed. The default setting is Unlocked Preset. There are two settings available:
- Locked Preset – Tap once to turn the timer on to the same programmed level every time.
- Unlocked Preset – Tap once to turn the timer on to the previous level.
To adjust the timer to a Locked Preset level, follow the steps below while in APM:

- Press or to select Timer Indicator Light 1 (TIL1).
- Tap the Timer Tap Button . If none of the Dimmer Indicator Lights are blinking, the timer is programmed for an Unlocked Preset level.
- Press or to select the preferred Locked Preset timer Level.
- Tap the Timer Tap Button to save the preferred Locked Preset level.
To adjust the timer to an Unlocked Preset level, follow the steps below while in the Preset Option Setting:

- Press until Timer Indicator Light 1 (TIL1) stops flashing.
- Release
- Tap the Dimmer Tap Button to save the Unlocked Preset setting.
